About this Mod

Another mod that adds sprinting to the game.... BUT AS A SKILL!
Let's be honest, I have an addiction to leveling skills. But I also don't really like skills in this game. I like the idea behind the traveling skill but I always felt like skills should be a bit more "active". Just moving around doesn't feel "active" enough for me. You need to choose to do something. Thus myself and my friend group went with the sprinting mod... till one of them suggested I combined the two. And thus, we are here at the Athletics skill.


  • Hold (or toggle) Sprint with a keybinding. While sprinting, Energy will drain. Higher levels reduce the drain rate.
  • Gain exp every few seconds while sprinting
  • When you use a tool, you have a chance gain exp. Swinging a pickaxe every day in the mines will increase your fitness IRL and now in Stardew!
  • Tool use exp gain is based off your athletics level vs the tool level. If you're a high level, swinging around a normal or copper hoe won't give as much gains as compared to iridium hoe.
  • As you level up, learn how to craft Muscle Remedy, new cooking recipes, or totem doubling recipes. Okay that last one doesnt really fit with this skill theme but a friend asked if I could so I did.


  • Level up Bonus: Reduce the energy cost of sprinting
  • Level 5a: Body Builder - Gain health regeneration based off athletics level
    • Level 10a1: Strong - Two effects depending on your configs or if walk of life is installed. Config option is there in case of mod conflicts / you already have a mod that does the effect.
      • The first effect is: Allows you to charge your axe and pickaxe like the hoe or watering can. 
      • The second effect is: Allows you to crack open non-special geodes with your bare hands. 
    • Level 10a2: Gridball Linebacker: Changes the sprinting buff into a charging buff. You gain defense equal to your athletics level as well as a thorns effect while charging.
  • Level 5b: Jogger - Gain energy regeneration based off athletics level
    • Level 10b1: Acrobat - Gain a chance to dodge damage based on your athletics level. level 10 has a 20% chance to dodge attacks.
    • Level 10b2: Marathoner - Increase sprinting speed by 1 and reduce stamina drain from sprinting.



Note: due to optimizations and to reduce calls, configs often refresh at day start rather than immediately when changed
  • Alternative Profession: switches between the effect of Strong. Requires restart to take effect. Forced on if walk of life is installed.
  • Skill page icon: switches between the energy bolt or the dumbbell icon on the skill page. requires restart
  • Sprint key: what key you need to hit to sprint
  • Toggle sprint: should sprinting be a toggle or a hold
  • Exp from sprinting: how much exp you get while sprinting
  • Exp chance from tools. this is the base chance to gain exp from using tools (25%). It is then calculated against how high your athletics is vs your tool level.
  • Exp from light tools: how much exp should using a "light" tool give you. A hoe, fishing rod, milkpail, shears, and watering can are light tools.
  • Exp from heavy tools: how much exp should using a "heavy" tool give you. A pickaxe or axe are default heavy tools.
  • Minimum energy to sprint: you can only sprint if your energy is above this value.
  • Sprint speed: how fast you should go when sprinting. WARNING: it is capped at 8 for a reason. going over +10 speed can result in game wonkyness. stack your speed buffs responsible.
  • Sprinting speed event: How often does sprinting grant exp. It's roughly ~2 seconds of sprinting triggers the sprinting exp event by default.



  • All Professions: All spacecore skills are already compatible with all professions.
  • Better Crafting: Has built in support for better crafting through the API!
  • CJB Item Spawner: With the switch to content patcher, all items should correctly show up with the item patcher.
  • Traveling Skill:100% compatible with it. The recipes from Athletics are additional recipes and do not modify vanilla recipes. But please stack speed boosts in a responsible way. 
  • UI infosuite 2: Does not support custom skills, you will not see custom skill exp gained from it. Please use one of the other options below..

Install required mods.
Download, unzip, and place the AthleticSkill folder into the Stardew Valley Mod folder.
If installed on an existing file, the new professions should be immediately available.

Should be compatible with most other mods. Please share incompatible mods on Nexus.
Not compatible with Android.

SPACE CORE SKILLS HAVE TROUBLE WITH SPLIT SCREEN! THIS IS ALL SPLIT SCREEN SKILLS, NOT JUST THIS MOD!
